BMAs Tall Conception In Concepion
Construction has started on what will be Chile's second tallest building located in its second largest city, Concepcion.
Named the Torre del Mall del Centro, it will stand at 112 metres and have 27 storeys. The project has been a long time in coming, the land was originally purchased back in 1997 but due to various reasons it was a bit of a none starter until now.
The project which is expected to cost around $70 million is designed by Argentinean architects Bodas Miani Anger or BMA and will be developed by Ripley.
The design consists of a shopping mall which will have a seven screen cinema, restaurants, a patioed area where food can also be found as well as around 100 shopping outlets. Conservative in design this is essentially a glass and aluminium box albeit with an impressive triangular canopy that shoppers enter by that leads into a long atrium slicing the shopping complex in half.
The adjoining tower is also has a aluminium and glass façade which rises steadily upwards to its peak where the glass becomes angled as if someone has taken a diamond cutter to the top of it and fashioned it in the shape of an oblong gem.
This will house a four star hotel over ten floors which will offer 147 beds, as yet it is unknown which hotel chain will be taking up residence.
The plans also include a underground supermarket along with underground parking with approximately 800 spaces.
Although some remain sceptical as to whether there is demand for the project but projections estimate approximately one million visitors a month to the project and an expected annual income of as much as $135 million.
