[Hunter] Profession Benefits
I decided to repost it here on the forum as I felt it needed more attention. The original post is by me over on the "When the goblin's away..." Blog
This is mostly for BM and MM hunters though some of it applies to survival hunters aswell
I base most of my calculations(=estimated guesses) on the values found in WHU's “What is EAP and Does it Smell Funny?”
=================================================================
Mining
Comment: Don’t take mining as stam is useless to hunters
Herbalism
Netherbloom pick buff (+50 random stat for 15min)
Comment: This is an extremely weak bonus
Skinning
Master of Anatomy (40 Critical Strike Rating)
Comment: This is a less than average bonus.
Blacksmithing
Bracer & Glove Sockets (64 AP/32Hit/32|16)
Comment: This is less than average bonus unless you really need the hit rating
Enchanting
Dual Ring Enchants (80 Attack Power)
Comment: This is average bonus
Inscription
Master’s Inscriptions (90 Attack Power & 5 Critical Strike Rating)
Comment: This is a better than average bonus (95 Calculated AP)
Leatherworking
Fur Linings (80 Attack Power)
Comment: This is average bonus
Alchemy
Mixology (80 Attack Power)
Mighty Alchemist’s Stone (trinket, 100 Attack Power & 50 Critical Strike Rating)
Comment: Mixology provides an average bonus and there is better trinkets available
Engineering(Author’s choice no.1)
Truesight Ice Blinders (14 Agi, 15 Int, 8 Crit and a yellow socket at the loss of 4 AP and a red socket) compared to Plunderer’s Helmet
Flexweave Underlay (+1 Agility)
Hyperspeed Accelerators (340 Haste for 12sec / 60sec)
or Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket (~48 DPS at the loss of 44 AP)
Nitro Boosts (+12 Crit, -12Hit, and a speed boost)
Saronite Bombs (~22 DPS)
Comment: Comment: This is THE best profession, with about 405 calculated AP(12 less if you aint hit capped). The calculated AP might be alot higher.
Jewelcrafting
Emerald Boar (84 Attack Power & 2 sockets, pet summon(~22 DPS for 30sec / 5min ) at the loss of either Meteorite Whetstone or Sphere of Red Dragon’s Blood(has 55 hit you can’t spare)
3x Dragon’s Eyes (18(54) Hit, Crit or Agility)
Comment: On the Surface this is the second best profession with app. 240 calculated AP and a pet on use, but after subtracting the Meteorite Whetstone’s calculated 185 AP you’re left with 55 AP. Making Jewelcrafting a very weak profession.
EDIT: 108 Calculated AP from Gems, and 160 from the trinket(everything included) making this the second best profession, especially if you’re having trouble getting Meteorite Whetstone.
Tailoring
Swordguard Embroidery (400 AP for 15 / 45+[0;5] sec)
Comment: Runner up with ~120 AP
Edit: I forgot to subtract the 22(23 with engineering) Agility, making it a calculated 80 AP instead
=================================================================
Conclusion
The best professions for hunter are 1st Engineering, 2nd Jewelcrafting, 3rd Inscription.
Gathering professions have the weakest bonuses
Feel free to point out any mistakes I've made. Enjoy!
Also, having turned HTML on for posts would be nice.

Re: [Hunter] Profession Benefits
Actually engineering is even better than that, since you also get 25% more mana from Runic Mana Injectors compared to regular mana pots, leading to less viper time and more dps on fights that are long enough to warrant a mana pot over a haste pot.

Re: [Hunter] Profession Benefits
You are right, but mana shouldn't be an issue(atleast for BMs). I'd choose Potion of Speed over a mana potion.
